WHO ARE WE?
The Community Health Council was set up by Parliament in 1974, to represent you, the consumers of health services. We are volunteers, local people appointed by local authorities and voluntary organisations.
W
e are here to channel your views on the NHS to health service managers. This helps to improve policies, planning and the services provided.

WHAT DO WE DO?
Our role is to monitor the NHS services provided locally. We do this by regularly visiting hospital and community services.
Have you used any of these services recently?
Do you have any issues that you wish to raise with an independent organisation?
Were you satisfied with the way you were treated?
We can represent your compliments and suggestions or help you to complain to the relevant people within the Health Service.
We offer advice on the NHS complaints procedure and can assist you at each stage of the process. This service is free and confidential.
We are interested in hearing from you.
Help us to help the NHS!

MEETINGS
We hold public meetings on a regular eight weekly cycle throughout the district and you are welcome to attend.
The first part of the meeting is open for your comments, suggestions or concerns.

Meetings are attended by Senior Officers of the Health Authority and NHS Trusts who regularly give information and respond to reports by the CHC.
For the date, time and venue of meetings, notices are displayed in Council Offices, Health Service premises and Libraries, or enquiries can be made at the CHC offices.
The CHC is represented at meetings of the Health Authority and all local NHS Trust Board meetings. This helps us to understand local issues and learn of any areas of planned changes. We are then your voice and can represent your views appropriately.
